Vision: Safer, cleaner, better mobility
To provide a data exchange to improve mobility outcomes:
- Public and Private Sector
- Vehicles, Infrastructure and Cities
- Unlock and monetise your companies data
- Buy data to support your business
ConVEx is a UK project involving central government, academia, private sector and local authority organisations to create a data exchange facility focused on mobility.
The project will create an open platform for the commercial exchange of data to enhance and accelerate the development of new mobility products and services.
The resulting facility will aggregate data from a diverse range of sources such as vehicles, infrastructure, traffic control centres, weather and more.
The build phase of the project is live and the facility will begin commercial operation in late 2020.
Synaptiv’s platform will act as a conduit for car data into the ConVEx system, collecting data either directly from vehicles or through partnerships with OEMs, then cleaning and normalising this data and making it available for the ConVEx facility.
Valerann will demonstrate making real-time data from their award winning devices available through the ConVEx data platform and directly to CAVs, specifically in cases where low-latency is critical for traffic safety. They will also identify the use cases where low-latency data is of most use and build an extension of the data platform that allows for data sharing based on geographical location.
Simulation & Insight
City scale modelling and simulation of future transport scenarios based on data collected by the facility. This capability sits firmly within the expertise of our partners Immense, who will demonstrate the large scale simulation and analysis of tactical and strategic use cases using the best available mobility data from ConVEx showing how future scenarios could change mobility for a modelled region, like Birmingham, London, Paris, New York, Singapore or anywhere!
TfWM (Transport for West Midlands)
Transport for West Midlands, part of the West Midlands Combined Authority, is responsible for making transport ‘happen’. We are accountable for delivering against a statutory transport plan Movement for Growth, which sets out our ambition to create a happier, healthier and better connected region through improving transport.
We’re striving to deliver a world-class integrated transport system which is clean, safe and affordable. One which puts people at the heart of decisions and gives everyone in the West Midlands access to the very best education, training and employment opportunities, no matter where they live in the region.
£5bn is committed up to 2026 to almost 200 schemes, set out in our 10 year delivery plan, which will help realise our vision and meet the needs of a rapidly growing population, while enabling economic growth. We are also supporting investment in our transport system from our partners including Network Rail, Highways England, High Speed 2 and the Department for Transport.
Working in partnership with 7 local authorities we serve a population of 2.8m. We’re responsible for 8m daily journeys, concessionary schemes and providing essential bus services. Our smartcard, Swift, is the largest smartcard scheme outside London.
Valerann was founded with the mission to save lives, improve traffic flow and support smart vehicle technologies. By making roads smart, we bring a different perspective to the intelligent transportation industry, turning the existing road infrastructure into a comprehensive source of information and connectivity.
In the past four years, we have built a strong multidisciplinary team of traffic management experts, tech executives and talented business development managers. All collaborated to create a first-of-its-kind smart roads solution. Our solution was implemented in major highways around the world. We have partnered with leading car manufacturers, collaborated with highways operators, and worked with advanced technology companies to make our smart road vision a reality.
Over the past four years we’ve been building the company to help deliver real benefits from the most exciting changes in transportation that we’ve seen in our lifetimes.
We support our partners with dynamic simulation and data capability to rapidly test many future transportation scenarios and provide insights in minutes, not months. This enables seamless integration and operation of evolutionary transportation technologies, infrastructure and business models within mobility systems across the world. We have built relationships with data suppliers, channel partners, industry and the public sector to deliver solutions to the most pressing transportation problems faced today.
Synaptiv is a data analytics platform focused on generating value from connected car data. This rich dataset is supplied by the array of sensors embedded within current-generation and next-generation vehicles travelling on our roads and highways.
Through the application of advanced data science techniques, Synaptiv transforms car data into unique and actionable insights, helping our clients reduce costs; develop a better understanding of their customers; and launch entirely new services into the marketplace.
Synaptiv's cloud analytics products address the demand from increasingly data-driven industries such as automotive, insurance, retail and road infrastructure management.
Synaptiv is backed by InMotion Ventures, a subsidiary of Jaguar Land Rover.

Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles
The Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CCAV) works across government to support the market for connected and automated vehicles (CAVs).
The government believes that CAVs could change the way we travel, making road transport safer, smoother and more accessible to those with mobility issues. To this end, CCAV, a joint Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and Department for Transport (DfT) policy team, was established in 2015. By working closely with industry, academia and regulators, it aims to make the UK a premier development location for connected and automated vehicles.
We are providing over £250 million in funding, matched by industry, to position the UK at the forefront of CAV research, development and use. This will contribute to UK economic growth and help industry to develop safe, efficient systems to move goods and help people get around.
UK Research and Innovation
UK Research and Innovation works in partnership with universities, research organisations, businesses, charities, and government to create the best possible environment for research and innovation to flourish. We aim to maximise the contribution of each of our component parts, working individually and collectively. We work with our many partners to benefit everyone through knowledge, talent and ideas.
UK Research and Innovation is also delivering specific aspects of the UK government’s no deal planning for EU Exit. To keep up to date please visit our dedicated pages.
Operating across the whole of the UK with a combined budget of more than £7 billion, UK Research and Innovation brings together the seven research councils, Innovate UK and Research England.
Zenzic was created by government and industry to champion the connected and self-driving ecosystem and accelerate the self-driving revolution in the UK. The company drives collaboration with partners across industry, government and academia to shape a world-class Testbed UK, and to deliver a comprehensive UK Connected and Automated Mobility Roadmap to 2030. Zenzic is channelling £200 million of investment, with the goal of ensuring a safer, more inclusive and productive mobile future.
Our Headquarters are at the UK’s National Automotive Innovation Centre (NAIC) on the WMG campus at the University of Warwick.
We chose this location as it is home a wide range of associated mobility research and is the location for the technical centres of Jaguar Land Rover, Bosch and the Advanced Propulsion Centre.
In addition we have a location at Bosch’s offices at the Connectory in London.
